The “Masters Green pantone 342” at Augusta

To have a green jacket you must be a member and especially a Masters champion of “Augusta National Golf Club,” one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the world.

Since 1967, Hamilton Tailoring Co. of Cincinnati has the honor to manufacture the exclusive green, which definitely does not accept orders from the general public. This jacket has a production period of approximately one month, for the work done and the quality of its materials.

The Masters Green Jacket has a tropical-weight wool made in Dublin, Georgia. This Blazer with 3 brass buttons engraved with the Augusta National Golf Club logo, which appears on the left breast pocket and the owner’s name is stitched on the inside label of the jacket, is the most important prize in Masters Tournaments.

The green jacket awarded to the grand prize winner at Augusta Masters originated in 1937, where club members wore green sacks to distinguish themselves from the crowd.

It was until 1949, that Sam Snead, a winning golfer was honored with the green jacket. That’s how Augusta Masters recognizes him as an honorary member of the club. The winner must wear it every time he visits Augusta National Golf Club and return it after one year. The tradition at the Masters includes having the tournament’s defending champion help the new champion slip into the green jacket.

Sam Snead became the first winner to be honored with a green jacket and it was then awarded -retroactively- to all previous winners.

In 1961, South Africa’s Gary Player became the tournament’s first international winner and took the green jacket back to his home country. When he returned the next year, golfer forgot to bring the jacket back.

In 1966, Jack Nicklaus became the first player to win the Masters in consecutive seasons and has won the prize on more occasions. Jones and co-founder Clifford Roberts had a quick discussion and decided Nicklaus would put the jacket on himself.

Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods have won consecutive Masters Tournaments. In those instances, the Masters Chairman helped Faldo and Woods into their green jackets. Nick Faldo, who won the Masters in 1989, 1990 and 1996, had his jacket produced by Nordstrom.

In 2023, Spaniard Jon Rahm wins the Masters at Augusta and gets the green jacket. “I find it hard to believe, the first one,” Rahm said after the win. “You know, if there’s anything better than accomplishing something like this, it’s making history. Out of all the accomplishments and the many great players that have come before me, to be the first to do something like that, it’s a very humbling feeling.”
