Mexico seeks to qualify for the Olympic Games

Sailing is one of the water sports at the Olympic Games in Paris and the Belausteguigoitia Fierro brothers are looking to be one of the four remaining teams to qualify.

Ander and Danel are the only Mexican representatives in sailing who are looking for a place in the most important sporting event in the world and to do so they will have to participate in three key championships.

The first is the Lanzarote International Regatta 2024, which takes place from 4th to 10th March in the Canary Islands, the second is the Mallorcan classic, the 53rd Trofeo Princesa Sofia in Spain, which takes place from 29th March to 6th April and finally from 20th to 27th April, the Semaine Olympique Française in Port of Hyères.

The results of these regattas will determine which teams will be present at the 2024 Olympic Games. Despite having great potential to develop sports tourism in the sailing discipline, thanks to its privileged geographical position, being surrounded by beaches and having a predominantly sub-humid and warm temperate climate, Mexico has no high-level competitors to compete against.

“We would love to have more teams to train, but the sailboat is a difficult boat, it requires a lot of dedication and training, it’s also very expensive and it is a challenge to get support, sponsors or donors to finance the campaign,” commented the Mexican sailors.
