Mexican Polo Open come home

Equestrian sport and particularly polo is one of the most sophisticated and exclusive sports in the world. Fortunately, in Mexico you can enjoy this noble sport in a suitable environment.

On December 3rd and after nine years of absence, Mexican Polo Open tournament “PoloFest” returns to the emblematic Campo Marte.

An equestrian experience for the whole family that will include, in addition to two polo games, the Medieval Jousting in which the Mexican Olympic representative, Carlos Gómez Franco, will participate, while the National Association of Charros will present the Monumental Escaramuza and various suertes charras representing the national equestrian sport.

The Heroic Cavalry of Mexican Army will parade with their Santa Gertrudis horses and present some equine activities in the field. In addition, there will be some falcon shows and the bagpipes will be played.

“In the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, every Sunday you would pass by the Campo Marte and see a game, even the Army had a very strong polo team, I remember that polo team and its members. There was a change that limited the equestrian theme at Campo Marte and it stopped being, let’s say, a cavalry theme,” commented Luis Gerardo Castillo, corporate director of PoloFest.

“Campo Marte’s function is for equestrian sport, including what is known in America as the ‘Cathedral of Polo’ in the world, which is Palermo in Argentina, but it’s an imitation of Campo Marte. Before it was the Campo Marte, so I am sure that with this type of event we are getting closer to polo and to being able to use the Campo Marte as it was previously used,” concluded Castillo.
