For more than a century, St. Moritz has attracted generations of enthusiastic tourists. The frozen Lake at 1,800 meters above sea level mix exclusiveness, privacy, sports and nature.

In January 1985, a group of British Cresta Run Members drove to St. Moritz to enjoy the race and decided to drive their vintage open Bentleys. Today, is a celebration of automotive style and design.

On February 26, 2022, the iconic and luxurious winter sports destination opened its doors to a variety of classic racing cars from all over the world.

The International Concours of Elegance or ICE puts the world’s most exciting motor cars on beautiful Lake St. Moritz. IWC Schaffhausen supported the event as Official Timing Partner, the watchmaker has long been strongly linked with motorsport. The brand founded its own motorsport team in 2018, and since then, the IWC Racing Team has competed at events including the Goodwood Members’ Meeting in the UK and the Arosa ClassicCar in Switzerland.

The IWC Racing Team took the opportunity to kick off its fourth racing season with Austrian racing driver Laura Kraihamer steered the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing” across the frozen lake. IWC brought a second race car “300 SLS Porter” to the ICE. Racing driver Chuck Porter designed this car in 1956, using components from a damaged 300 SL “Gullwing”, creating a legendary one-off.

“Seeing these two 1950s legends, the ‘Gullwing’ and the ‘300 SLS Porter’, compete in the company of other historic racing cars on snow and ice for the first time was a truly un-forgettable experience”, commented Philippe Franke, IWC Brand Director Switzerland.

Driving old cars on the snow creates incredible challenges, making the day more interesting and entertaining as participants try different ways to guarantee contact between the tires and the surface.
